3.5 Basic Troubleshooting
Candidates troubleshoot basic software and hardware problems common in digital learning environments.
Artifact: Jing Screencast
Reflection:
One of the assignments for ITEC 7430, Internet Tools in the Classroom was to create a tutorial on a digital tool of our choice. The goal for this tutorial was to allow users to have a reference for troubleshooting the tool in case they were having difficulty. Providing a tutorial is just one way you can provide troubleshooting in the digital learning environment.
Troubleshooting can come in multiple forms. For this artifact, it comes in the form of a tutorial students have access to in order to overcome difficulties in working with software. The tutorial I created gives a step-by-step process for completing an assignment using the software. Hardware elements were also involved, such as opening a software application from the desktop.
From completing this assignment I learned how to plan and implement a step-by-step troubleshooting guide in the form of a video. Since this artifact was created, I have made more video tutorials for various software and hardware applications. One improvement I have made was investing in Camtasia, which is video editing and producing software made by TechSmith.
This artifact impacted student learning by giving students working on a project extra support for troubleshooting the software program they used to complete an assignment. I observed some students using the tutorial to help them complete the assignment. In the event a student needed help beyond the tutorial, I worked with him or her individually. This helped save time since most students either understood the software or were able to complete the assignment after viewing the tutorial.
