3.6 Selecting and Evaluating Digital Tools & Resources
Candidates collaborate with teachers and administrators to select and evaluate digital tools and resources for accuracy, suitability, and compatibility with the school technology infrastructure.
Artifact: Instructional
Software Project
Reflection:
One of the assignments for the ITEC 7400, 21st Century Teaching and Learning course was the Instructional Software project. For this assignment we evaluated a variety of technology tools for use in our classrooms. We provided a brief critique of each and selected one of these tools and described how we could use it in our classrooms.
This artifact demonstrates the ability to research different tools that are potentially beneficial to the learning environment and evaluate for effectiveness (accuracy, suitability, and compatibility with the school technology infrastructure). Collaborative components were used (through discussion) for this assignment since some of the applications are available to all classrooms. Through evaluation and discussion, proposals can be made to include newer technology at a faster pace.
Through this artifact I learned a process for selecting and evaluating technology. This process of evaluation can be used frequently as new tools emerge on the market. Although I focused all of my energy towards software applications, if I were to do it again I would have included other technology resources – such as eBooks and eReference materials.
I believe this experience impacted my school through extra knowledge and expertise on learning about software other teachers were using in their classrooms. I was able to discuss with other teachers these software applications and knowing something about them allowed me to share my ideas. Professional development has dropped as a result of budget constraints so teachers are helping each other more as a result.
